On the water

Mummy has been really busy recently with WWT visits. She had a voucher to use over at Slimbridge for the canoe safari, so her and GavGav went there the other Friday and played with the birdies. Mummy says that the canoeing was a fun workout, even though it did pour with rain whilst they were out on the lake. They hid under a buddljea bush and kept reasonable dry, along with a couple of ducks and a moorhen and chick.





On the way round on the canoe there was a Moorhen chick that was desparate for the food they had with them, and was running along the bank trying to keep up with their hands. So GavGav had a great idea to get the Moorhen on the paddle to make it easier for it to eat some of the food (especially as it was struggling to get past some of the greenery on parts of the bank). Then mummy came along:




Then Sunday and Monday they went to Marwell Zoo and Arundel WWT respectively - pictures will follow in the next few posts. Hope you enjoy them :)

2020!!

Hi guys, So this is my first post of 2020 as mummy has been so busy I have not been able to get to the laptop. For those of you who have just joined me, I am a Lesser Sulphur Crested Cockatoo called Chucky and I want to tell you about the nature we see around the home, and also out and about. So on New Years Day mummy decided to go pond-dipping as she got herself a set at the beginning of December, but then work was so manic she didn't get a chance to just go out and use it. There were a few things that she manages to scoop out of the water, including a Hoglouse You can see that there is a smaller one underneath the larger one. We have since been informed that the male is the larger of the two and sits on top of the female during mating! We also saw a flat worm and a little Gammaridae (shrimp-like thing), which you can see in this video. Yesterday, mummy and GavGav went out to Slimbridge WWT. I am not allowed to go with them because of all the wild birds - apparently ...

Spooky October

Well to start spooky October - here is the little male house spider that is collecting Beau and Florances seeds that they throw out to make his little hidey hole - definitely a spooky little guy here. He has a female living just down the back of the footstool too - I think he might be waiting for her to mature, but he is quite small, so I am not even sure if he is mature himself as yet. We also had this little guy that mummy brought in on the brambles for the stick insects (there are hundreds of babies if anybody wants any!) No idea what the caterpillar turns into though. Mummy and Gav Gav also got some Hawk Moth caterpillars that were bright green: and they have now become Hawk Moths! There was a garden spider who kept building her web across the front door but luckily mummy was going through it and so she kept just moving the web off to one side. Gossip from the garden

Sorry it has been a while - mummy has been hogging here computer, and the nature cam is currently down and awaiting repair, so I am short on photo's to share with you. The crows, magpies and rats are still visiting the garden, as are the blackbirds, but we are not seeing much of the wagtails now. We did have a collared dove that nearly landed on mummy's head the other day though! The garden is a little overgrown at the moment as mummy likes to have a 'wild' garden. Gav Gav says it is a bit too wild at the moment and mummy has to cut it all back. Hwever, there are benefits to having a wild garden - such as this pretty little grasshopper. You don't tend to see these in highly cultivated gardens as they appreciate - well I would say long grass, but the rabbit ensures there is none of that - so I guess green stuff in general? There have also been a few little jumping spiders about - this one was helping mummy doing work on her laptop. How cute is tha...
