Nature year end

So the Wildlife Trust are doing an initiative to get people out and about in the Twixmas period. They are urging people to tune in with nature during the dys between Christmas and New Year.

I have been playing along with my mummy - obviously - but we have not really managed to get many photographs! Nature is a little more subtle at this time of year, and mummy is pretty rubbish really - by the time she has got her camera out whatever is interesting has quickly done a runner!

So on Christmas Day we had my Grandparents round, and mummy let Doris play out in the garden (she has a run that she is in all year, but in Winter the grass grows much slower due to the clay soil being wet and cold, so the run stays stationary and Doris comes out into the garden main once or twice a week to get some fresh grass). The crows were having much fun watching her - although she was determined to eat their food before they did lol. However, it is interesting that we do still have a sunflower in flower - on Christmas Day!
Yup mummy gave us birdies our own Christmas tree too!

Boxing Day was a little quieter. Mummy and Gav Gav went out to get a new desk for the craft room - one that is on wheels so we can have guests using the sofa bed! This is an example of a rubbish mummy - while she was loading the desk into the car she noticed that there was a Jackdaw on the chimney pot, and a blackbird sat on the roof looking at the chimney. The blackbird would sing a little ditty and then the Jackdaw would reply with a little caw. It really looked like they were having a conversation, and mummy didn't catch any of it on camera! Mummy did however catch Waffles antics on camera:

Now yesterday was the 27th and mummy did manage to get some photos of the local ducks when her and GavGav went to feed them.
This one is actually a magpie that was eyeing up the duck food hahaha.

However, the funny thing that happened yeesterday was Doris and one of the Magpies that visit the garden (there are actually two as I informed mummy the other day). The magpie had come down onto the lawn and was listening for something, which it kept jumping after. Then it heard Doris running up to the side of her run. After watching her cautiously and observing that she was confined, the magpie started to hop towards her - still very cautious and twitchy. Then it got to the bars and pecked poor Doris on the nose! Doris went off running like a mad thing, but the Magpie hadn't actually hurt her - it barely even touched her, but my it was sooooo funny. I was laughing for a good 5 minutes!!

Today mummy has been out sorting some bits in the garden - pulling up the plants that have actually died, putting out crow food (no point calling it bird food as it is the crows that eat it all before anyone else gets a chance - apart from the magpies occassionally) and playing with Doris. She saw a few spiders, and tried to get some photos, but they are not very good due to the locations of the spiders. She also pulled out the tomato as this has now died - Doris did help pull it out. The potatoes have started growing again!!!

Keep on checking back for the next instalments,

Bedtime now!
