The last days of 2018
Happy New Year everybody!!
I am going to tell you about the last few wild days of 2018 now - and GavGav should be putting the wildlife camera up in the garden today, so there should be many more pictures that I can show you - I do see so much more than mummy does, cause she has to go out to work - plus she is quite big and scary to many of the larger birds.
So we left off on the 28th last time, and on the 29th Mummy and GavGav went to WWT Slimbridge after mummy had finished at work. They spent more time in the hides looking for the wild birds rather than the ones that are 'kept' at the reserve. It is a shame I could not go with them as it sounds amazing, but mummy says I might get ill so I must stay home. However she did bring me some fun pictures:
This goose just couldn't wait for mummy to get the food out of the bag for it, so it just helped itself haha - my kinda bird!
Ooh I hadn't realised that there were other things there other than birds. Mummy had never told me about these before - how many frogs can you spot?
Mummy was working again on the 30th, and then she went to a vintage car show with GavGav, so I didn't get to see her until later in the afternoon! She missed all the crows antics (although she could tell they had been in the garden because they are so naughty lol). Doris got to have a run round the garden for a bit whilst mummy cleaned them all out. She found this lovely egg sac on the back gate.
She then decided to clean out the storage bench that is in the garden as it was going to go up on the balcony, however it is looking its age and they have now decided they will just buy a new one instead. BUT while she was inside she found these two lovely specimens:
It was only after moving the bench that you could see how the plastic had started to degrade, and all the slug eggs that were all around the bench (don't really want to take slugs upstairs onto the balcony!) but this also allowed mummy to see this!
These are all nettle roots!! Needless to say mummy did dig them all out.
Yesterday was New Years Eve and we were going to go and watch the Starling Murmerations that mummy had been told were currently happening, but they didn't get back home in time.We did however manage to get a photo of Henry's friend the Walnut Orb Weaver spider out and about in her web.
Oh, you remember I told you about those nettle roots that mummy had to dig up? Well it was super exciting today as there were a pair of Wrens playing in the freshly dug soil! New Year and a new species of bird to welcome to the garden! The Magpies have also been in causing trouble haha:
Have a wonderful 2019 full of wildness everybody.
I will leave you with a little photo of me :)
