More wildness (I just can't get enough)
Ok so some days mummy is very busy and doesn't really get a chance to pop outside whilst it is still light! Yesterday was one of those days as she needed to go shopping once she got home from work and then there was a visitor coming round later on. It is much more fun when she doesn't go shopping and spends all the time with me instead - surely wildness is much more important?
However, upon going up to her bedroom (after putting me to bed) she saw the moon out of the bedroom window, and it was so pretty in the black sky. We tend to take the moon for granted unless it is a large and full moon, so mummy decided to take this picture. She explained to me that the reason it was taken through the window was that when she moved to get a clearer shot, it disappeared behind the house opposite!
Hmm, ok so not a brilliant picture, but on the theme of nighttime there is a little bat that is currently visiting the garden in the evenings. Well, I say little - it is in comparison to myself, but it is actually reasonably large for a bat. Unfortunately we have no idea what bat it is but I guess it is feeding as much as possible ready for hibernation.
Today has been much more interesting as mummy spent the late afternoon/early evening in the garden. The first thing of interest was this butterfly that flew into a garden spiders web. Mummy did think to go a rescue it before it destroyed the web, but the spider was out and on it! Mummy caught the end of it on video:
There is also a picture in case the video doesn't work for you:
The butterfly stopped struggling almost as soon as the spider was on top of it, which was quite impressive, as flies will usually fight until they are fully wrapped up in silk. Not sure if maybe butterflies are more susceptible to the venom?
So the main focus of being in the garden was to cut the nettles right down now that we are at the end of summer, and the nettles are a little bit overgrown due to the recent warm, wet weather we have been having here in South Wales. However, when the task was started it was noticed that there are actually a lot of caterpillars still making their homes in the nettles. Here are photos of two different species:
We don't currently know what these are but we are hoping to find out - and I will then update you all :)
Right it is dark outside now and I am getting sleepy, so I will see you all tomorrow :)
