Natural world

Well yet another busy weekend - it is just too difficult to stay indoors when the weather is nice like this. There is lots to do out in the garden and lots of critters to see. Firstly we have the blue tits still coming to the feeder - and then we have the crow family which have started trying to dig up the grass tray where mummy is trying to grow cat grass for the rabbit and guinea pigs! They are soooo funny to watch, but I don't think mummy is too impressed hehe.

In this photo mummy didn't have to zoom in at all - she actually was that close! They are so used to her that they don't mind (although if she stands up they do fly away, unlike the wagtails that just used to shout at her). The crows however fly away as soon as they see either mummy or GavGav looking at them.

There is a little cafe nearby, down by the sea wall, and they feed the sparrows on the table. My keepers love to go there in the hot weather, and then pop up to the sea wall where they can see plenty of noisy white birds (that are not me :D) and some Shelducks too. The Sparrows seem to love to eat the welsh cakes most of all!

On Saturday they went out to Magor Marsh to do a butterfly count for the BIG Butterfly Count! Find out more here. There were actually a nice selection of butterflies apparently - although GavGav gets bored easily.

Finally, they went to an invertebrate show yesterday (meaning I was left home alone for most of the day!) :(  Poor little me! They brought back 4! new spiders - two jumping spiders, a big tarantula (no idea what it is but it only has six legs poor sod) and a pretty orange thing with blueish legs. Mummy did tell me what it was called but I cannot remember - it was something like a Psycho! Mummy has now decided she wants to get a pet skunk, as she was playign with one at the show (you could tell when she got back - they have a very musky scent and mummy reeked of it).

Mummy went out into the garden to chop the flower heads off the thistle that had started to go over. There were two different fluffy caterpillars on the nettles (mummy has taken a photo, but they are currently still on her phone, so I will try to get them onto here later).

Anyway, it is now time for me to head off to bed - even though it is still bright and light outside. Mummy can be so cruel sometimes!
